I noticed while watching tonight's 6-5 shootout victory, The Buell reed horns sound much more crisp and louder. Did they get new horns of the same make or something?

Yes we noticed a difference in the horn's tone in November. The team has said they haven't changed anything it really does sound different on tv so my thought is it might be a change in the game mics.

No, I was at the game against the Canadiens on the 8th, they sound mostly the same. there's kind of a "beat" frequency I don't remember hearing in the past, so I'm assuming one or more of the horns are changing pitch slightly with age. I asked them (via Facebook) and they said they haven't changed anything about the horns. Ever since they were installed in '94 there have been four low-high tone pairs up in the rafters above the scoreboard. I think you're just hearing differences from where the TV audio is picking up the sound.

not to be a pest, but I think the differences in the horns' sound is simply where the listener/recording is being taken from. This one sounds the same as it has since the '90s:
