I caught a glimpse of the Sweden / Russia game of the World Cup of Hockey 2016 today and noticed something very off: The boards had substituted advertisements in place of the physical ones. Has broadcast advertising gone this damn low? First it was the ads on the glass, but now the entire boards?
(EX: Air Canada ad spanning the length of the benches to the far corner behind the net, only being interrupted whenever a snowstorm occurred when players did an about face. Such ads did not appear on replays or other camera angles.)

I can only imagine the business mess these could be if NHL broadcasting partners start this. Since arena owners would then make way less on the actual board ads.
