The Islanders move to Barclays Center has been one of the most controversial arena change in NHL history. There are people who argue for and against the Islanders move there. I wanted to get an idea from the die-hard NHL arena community what they thought the pros and cons of the arena.

The Barclays Center actually has 375 less seats than the Coliseum for hockey not to mention the obstructed view seats at Barclays

Pros: -Modern and up-to-date facilities
-Easily accessible by public transport; only 30 minutes from Midtown Manhattan.
Cons: -Poor sightlines for hockey; designed with the NBA's Brooklyn Nets in mind.
-Location. The Islanders' fanbase is primarily in Long Island, with the arena move many of the fans must travel longer distances to the arena.
-Scoreboard is not centered. If I were an employee for Populous I would have even NBA specific arenas be hockey ready should a franchise start or relocate there, or even for exhibition or preseason games.
Hopefully once the Coliseum's renovation is complete the Islanders will return either for the 2017-18 or 2018-19 season.

The Islanders have a opt out of their contract after their 3rd season at the arena, so I expect something to be done then

Moving back to Nassau Coliseum is no longer and option according to the suits working for the Isles, however they are eyeing a move to Queens.

Pros: - Well...least you can still call them the Islanders since Brooklyn is part of Long Island.
Cons: - Built for the Nets, as mentioned it's got horrible sightlines in some spots - Dat off-centre scoreboard mang!

Pros:
-Modern facility.
-Accessible by LIRR and numerous subway lines, which is beneficial for both the fans in Nassau County and in the city.
-Market size; they're tapping into a tremendous market in NYC and Brooklyn, which will result in better visibility than anything they've had at Nassau.
Cons:
-Obviously the sightlines are the worst. But that's what happens when you build an arena with basketball-only in mind.
Hopefully, they look into making the seats on the other end retractable (like at every other dual-purpose arena), which would solve the sightline issue. Aside from that, I think that the move into the city is the best for the team.
