The Marlies scoreboard before the current one was the original video board from the Air Canada Centre when it was replaced in 2008. When that scoreboard was decommissioned from the Air Canada Centre in the summer of 2015, they kept the bottom led ring and the 2 led boards and that's what they use for the Marlies now.

I had to consult some pictures to what you said so correct me if I'm wrong:
Pre-2008: End-zone scoreboards at the four corners near box suites 2008-2015: 1st ACC's SONY JumboTron video with the original Ricoh end-zone scoreboards grafted onto the bottom 2015-Pres: The bottom half of the 2nd ACC scoreboard

I always thought the Ricoh Coliseum's previous scoreboard was a projection screen. Always looked so dim when the lights were on.

No, in 2013 they upgraded the lighting by 200 x what it used to be. Therefore, it made the scoreboard look washed out
